Dudley Society of Artists arrive canal-side
We’re so excited to welcome Dudley Society of Artists to the Portal. From April 18th to June 10th, ‘Canal-side’ will feature over 50 diverse works by talented local artists. The highly respected art society has been meeting and exhibiting for the past 89 years and despite being an amateur society, several members have achieved success in exhibitions both locally and nationally. The society’s current home is Castle High School and Visual Arts College where they meet weekly to work on their current projects, have demonstrations and work on portraiture from live models.
For the past 89 years, Dudley Society of Artists have held their annual exhibition at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery. Following the closure of the Priory Street museum, we are very proud to offer an alternative venue for the society. Over the past months the members have been working away on their canal-side theme and have created some stunning scenes which are evocative of Dudley’s historic and atmospheric canals.
Over the next six weeks, visitors will be able to view original artworks from the society in a variety of media, styles and different scales. The exhibition is free to visit in the temporary exhibition space the Portal. All art works will also be for sale.
“We’re so pleased to be welcoming Dudley Society of Artists to the Portal”, said Holly Wain, Heritage Activities Assistant at Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust. “We are thrilled to be able to champion the talent of local artists and promote the society and its work in our community”.
The exhibition is free to visit and will be running from 18th April to 10th June. All of the original artwork featured in the exhibition will be for sale. For more information on the exhibition or Dudley Society of Artists, please visit http://www.dudleysocietyofartists.com/DSOA2/Welcome.html.
