A complete educational experience from evolution to revolution
Join us for a 45 minute journey taking in over 420 million years of Black Country history. Discover how the unique circumstances of geology, archaeology, engineering, sociology and economics changed the world as you travel underground into our limestone mines and caverns on our skipper-guided trip.
We can also offer a variety of other trip options to fit in with your teaching programme; please enquire if you have specific requirements.
To complement your tunnel trip, we offer a range of educational workshops. These hands-on sessions last approximately 50 minutes, cover a range of curriculum topics and are led by our education team. The workshop sessions are currently available for KS1, KS2 and KS3 but please enquire if you’re interested in KS4+ as we are happy to adapt them for older audiences.
“I’ve been leading school trips for over 25 years and this was one of the best I’ve done. Before our visit the staff were so helpful in tailoring the visit to the needs of my group, and on the day of the trip we had a warm welcome on arrival, everything was ready for us, the canal boat trip was fantastic with a knowledgeable and informative captain, and the classroom session was perfect for my students. An excellent experience that I would thoroughly recommend.”
Our 45-50 min workshop sessions will make your visit a complete day out. Led by our staff, your students will get hands on with objects and interactive activities to explore topics that complement your boat trip.
We cover a range of curriculum-linked topics, from science and social history to literacy and geography, aimed at various key stages.
To see the workshops we currently offer, please download our Teacher Information Pack. If you’re interested in a session for an age group not listed in the pack then please ask; we’re happy to develop alternatives for your students.
Are your students working towards an Arts Award? Many of our workshops already contain elements that could help them on their journey, and we’re happy to adapt sessions to include new things to support this.
Not working towards Arts Award, but would like to be? We are an Arts Award centre with an in-house adviser who can assess awards at Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver levels, so get in touch with us if you’d like to know more about how we can help your students to achieve one of these awards.
