We are very happy to announce that we are one of the first to have signed up to Age-Friendly Standards! Amazing… but what does that mean? Signing-up to the Age-Friendly Standards shows that we value all generations and want to provide an enjoyable and interesting experience for everyone, regardless of their age.
Signing up to the Age-Friendly Standards allows our visitors to come along knowing beforehand that they will definitely gain something positive from their time with us. As an organisation we already do our best to make everyone feel welcome, doing so by making sure that our site is fully accessible, which you can read more about here.
Whilst many of the Age-Friendly Standards relate to all generations, we know that older people may be more likely to experience barriers to engagement than younger family members, so there is a need for cultural organisations to join the stand against the reported drop-off in cultural engagement amongst older people. This is further reinforced by Age UK’s recent research that identifies cultural engagement as the biggest contributing factor to wellbeing in later life.
The Age-Friendly Standards also acknowledge the significant benefits of providing opportunities for different generations to engage in cultural activities together, and encourage organisations to facilitate these experiences.
We look forward to welcoming you to Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust very soon… however old you are.
